Reunions

We've now had a number of reunions for alumni who first attended the College during the 70s. Over time these have slowly extended themselves to cover all those who did their time between 1965 and 1985. This was a very unique period for the students; as the sixties got into the swing of things, male undergraduates were admitted for the first time changing the environment forever. New halls were built to accommodate this strange new species, the character of the social life changed forever but the college remained relatively small with only around 1000 students. This number grew slowly and the balance between female and male students grew towards equilibrium until 1985 where a merger with Bedford College took place and numbers grew rapidly.

Reunions were held on a three year cycle between 2007 and 2019 - and details of all of these can be found on the various pages of the web site - provided you have registered your alumni details and are signed in.

It is to be hoped that the reunions continue on a similar cycle for at least a few more occasions. The next reunion is still scheduled to take place in 2022 but clearly that will depend on what happens with Covid-19 and how conditions are expected to be at the time. A provisional date will probably be published towards the end of 2020 so that those from overseas can factor the date into any plans they have to travel to the UK in 2022.

The next event is being organised by John Parker who studied Chemistry from 1979 - 82 and his wife Janet (was Wilson) who studied history between 1981 and 1984.

2019 Reunion

The 2019 Reunion will be on September 14th and 15th 2019 and held once again on the campus. Tickets will be available through the College website by mid-end February 2019.

The intention is to follow the same format as the event in 2016, certainly on the Saturday. On the Sunday there will probably be a "Heritage Open Day" from 11 AM onwards so as well as the traditional RHC70s reunion activities on Sunday there will be the opportunity to do a whole lot more throughout the day. There are a few details about the heritage day here - https://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/visiting/event/explore-royal-holloway

Discussions are well underway to establish the various costs so the ticket price can be set. We expect as a minimum an increase in price to reflect inflation but hopefully not too much more than that though some of the costs have increased by more.

We plan to have a open-mike event on the Saturday afternoon so if anyone has some desire to get up on a stage and perform then please let us know.

Overnight accommodation will be available again and this too will be available to book at the same time as the event tickets go on sale. For those that want to make a weekend of it then it will be possible to book rooms for the Friday night and/or Sunday night as well.

This part of the website will be updated as more details become available and once tickets are available to order then the mailshots will begin!!

Hopefully we will have an excellent turn-out this time for what will be the last event I organise.

2013 Reunion - Music playlist - almost final

This is the current list of tracks Pete Challinger has loaded and available for play at the reunion.  Some of these will be background music for the afternoon or the quiet areas and some won't get played at all - There's about 38 hours worth so it will be hard to squeeze them all in!  Hopefully the list brings back some memories.  If it's not on this list then I can't play it.  If you are aghast that a particular track is missing feel free to email Pete Challinger and he will see if he can add it.

2013 Reunion - Outline

The RHC70s 2013 reunion happened on 22nd /23rd June 2013. Several hundred alumni who spent their time at RHC between 1965 and 1985 attended  (a broad interpretation of a brief moment in time as befits the 70s). 1965 was the year that male undergraduates were admitted for the first time and 1985 was when RHC stopped being RHC and became RHBNC as a result of the merger with Bedford College in London. The reunion is an opportunity for all those alumni who spent time at the College when it was still called RHC and catered for both men and women to get together and reminisce.

To see details of the reunion and any photos taken you need to be logged in. Some of the planning information will remain here until I get round to tidying it up.

2013 - Agenda

The dust has settled, the event is over and only the memories linger on.

As an aid to your memory you can find a selection of pictures from the event along with the badges of those that attended within the Community section of the site. To get there jusrt click on this link.

The 2019 Reunion was held on September 14th and 15th 2019 and held once again on the campus.

This section held a lot of details about the plans for the event in the run up to the reunion and is now being re-purposed to hold links to pictures taken during the event.

The intention had been to reproduce the photo taken on the South Quad steps at the 2016 reunion but the sun was shining so brightly that one flight of steps was in brilliant sunshine and the other steps were in total shadow cast by the tower over the south quad gateway. We still managed a picture (thanks to Andrew Griffin) - but the stylke had to be a little different.
