The main lecture theatre housed in Founders must feature highly in many students' memories of their time at the college, if only for the detrimental effect on concentration levels caused by the posterior-numbing effect of the wooden seating. Another memorable though possibly concentration-sapping feature for those with wandering attention spans was the dinky little brass inkwells, with lids that could be slid backwards and forwards.
As well as being used for lectures, the lecture theatre was also the campus 'cinema', frequently well-attended with films projected old style, necessitating breaks for reel changes. It was also the venue for STUDS, the Student Union Debating Society, a platform for fledgling orators and incipient politicians of all political persuasions, inciting students to look beyond their academic aims and think about the world that awaited them after graduation.
Feel free to share your memories of this rather antiquated part of Holloway, whether it's recollections of sharing the experience of watching 'blockbusters' surrounded by fellow students, or maybe the awakening of your own political ambitions. Perhaps it was even the place where a particularly inspirational lecturer managed to counteract the discomfort of the seating and the distraction of the sliding lidded inkwells, and filled you with renewed enthusiasm for your subject.
